Since the 15th century the Henriques, were the largest landowners in the C_mara de Lobos area. It was here that the first vines were planted by Zarco, between 1420-1425, when he settled in the small natural harbour. The initial planting was made on the slopes of Pico da Torre, which belonged to the Henriques, and up the rift valleys of Estreito de C?ra de Lobos and Quinta Grande, which are traditionally considered to produce the best Madeiras.
